Policy Update: Workers Compensation no longer offered by CHU and Flex Insurance

Recently CHU Underwriting Agencies and Flex Insurance distributed an important update for their strata insurance policyholders in relation to workers compensation, which we have published below with their permission.

Strata Community Insurance has confirmed that Workers Compensation is available through their strata insurance policy in Western Australia, Tasmania, and the Australian Capital Territory.

Policy Update: Workers Compensation no longer offered by CHU and Flex Insurance

We want to advise that CHU Underwriting Agencies and Flex Insurance will no longer be offering Workers Compensation to customers for:

  • New business quotes created from 28 July 2023
  • Renewals incepting from 1 October 2023

CHU and Flex Insurance have come to this decision after considering the following:

  • When a strata body purchases Workers Compensation through CHU, the cover afforded under this section of the Policy is directly issued by QBE (our capital provider) with their own unique policy number which can be confusing for customers.
  • In the event of a Workers Compensation claim, whilst the strata body would initially contact CHU, the claim would be passed onto and directly managed by QBE. This is different to all other sections of the Policy which CHU and Flex manage the claims process from start to finish. This can make the claims process longer and at times more difficult for customers.

This change will be supported by the provision of a new PDS and Policy Wording for CHU Residential Strata, Commercial Strata, Community Association and Flex Insurance Residential Strata with an effective date of 1st October 2023.
Whilst CHU and Flex will no longer be offering Workers Compensation, strata bodies will able to place cover directly with QBE by contacting them on 02 8597 2038.

We have also put together a fact sheet to better assist customers understanding on when they require a Workers Compensation policy or not.

CHU and Flex Insurance will continue to support the strata industry with their market leading policy wordings, whilst ensuring they maintain the highest levels of service and support for customers.
